Importance Of Lord Ganesha

Eliminator of the all negative energies and misfortune from one’s life - Lord Ganesha also known as “Vighnaharta” is the only God with a body of the human and the head of an elephant. Just before commencing any business, starting a puja, marriage, or any other ritual, Lord Ganesh is worshiped by the devotees so as to ensure a happy and positive start to all the work we do.

Actually, there are many reasons why is Lord Ganesha worshiped before any occasion and carries some significance and story to support this belief. Let us understand the reasons and their importance.

Shiva Purana

According to the Shiva Purana, the story begins where Lord Shiva once had been to the Kailash parvat to meditate in the cave. While on the other hand Parvati before used her divine powers & created a boy asking him to stand at the entrance & do not allow anyone, until she finishes her bath.

By the time Lord Shiva returned, Ganpati did stopped him at the entrance which angered Lord Shiva & he slashed Ganpati’s head with a Trishul. While Parvati was crying in despair, Lord Shiva sent him men to find the head of who returned with the head of the elephant.

This was then placed to Lord Ganesha’s body & brought back to life. Witnessing the devotion & love of Ganpati towards Maa Parvati, Lord Shiva told his devotees to worship Lord Ganesha before starting any auspicious occasion or puja.

Competition between Lord Ganesha & Kartikeya

Another reason why should we pray Ganesha first is that, once both these brothers argued about each others superiority & the best among all the Gods. Watching them quarrel, Lord Shiva asked them to encircle the universe in a short period of time.

With the help of the peacock, Lord Kartikeya started the process, while Ganpati commenced to move around Lord Shiva & Parvati itself. Understanding the smartness & intelligence of Ganpati, Lord Shiva declared him the winner.

Yogic Belief

All the spiritual & materialistic worlds are controlled by the “Muladhar Chakra”. This chakra is in the control of Lord Ganesha, offering enlightenment, success & frees us from the rebirth. Hence, Yogic Belief is also one of the reasons why should we pray ganesha first.
