Why is Navratri the most celebrated festival of India?
Goddess Durga is a representation of power and prosperity therefore praying and admiring her has a high significance in Indian culture. Navratri is a festival celebrated for nine days and it is believed that the goddess of power sanctifies the whole universe by destroying all the destructive and evils. Hence devotees with a lot of belief offer prayers and celebrate the festival with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal.
This festival of Navratri usually falls at the time of the year when the rainy season is about to end and the whole surrounding is quite greenish. Ghatsthapana is done by the devotees at their households and the ritual of keeping a lamp lit continuously for nine days also began by the start of Navratri.
The crops in farms are ready or about to be ready during this festival, therefore, goddess Durga is also known as the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Farmers celebrate the festival with joy and pride around this time of the year as he would have started earning from the crops that he had grown.
Hence, Navratri brings joy and happiness to the lives of people and is thus the most favorite festival of people all around the country. This year i.e 2019, Navratri celebrations begin from 06th of April and continues till 14th April .
