Why is Durga Puja considered to be the most important part of Navratri?
Worshipping Goddess Durga with true devotion and dedication during Shardiya Navratri helps a person attain wealth as well as knowledge. Hence one can get rid of all the sins that were made knowingly and unknowingly and thus become the purest soul separated from all sins of life.
While fast, feast and worship of Goddess Durga continue for ten long days during Navratri, Durga Puja is largely celebrated with high spirits and elegance during the last four days. The last four days are observed as Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Navami, and Vijayadashmi.
Durga Puja is considered auspicious as it celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is believed that on this day Maa Durga killed the demon Mahishasura to make the heaven free from the cruelty of the demons. The Durga Puja aims at the triumph of truth over untruth, good over evil, light over darkness and triumph of knowledge over ignorance.
Goddess Durga is the personification of strength and is worshipped by different devotees at different times, to acquire strength to eradicate the evil effects. It is stated that Lord Ramachandra invoked Goddess Durga and worshipped her for killing Ravana to rescue Sita. It is stated that at the moment of the transition of Ashtami, the ten heads of Ravana were detached from his body and thus Ravana was killed.
In the year 2018, Durga Puja commences from 15th October and Vijayadashami is on the 19th of October.
