Shastras give great importance to the shradh ceremonies that are performed during the Pitru Paksha period as this period is considered to bestow huge benefits to the doer and his family. As we are already aware of the fact that Pitru Paksha is very important for the Hindus. Every year, Pitru Paksha extends from the day of Purnima of the Bhadrapada month (August – September) and continues till the day of Amavasya.
Dwitiya Shradh
Dwitiya Shradh falls on, 15th September 2019, this year.
The other name of Dwitiya Shradh is Dooj shradh. People perform Shradh of their ancestors who passed away on the Dwitiya tithi regardless of the death took place during the Shukla Paksha or Krishna Paksha.
Every year, Shradh and Tarpan are offered to forefathers on this day to feed their hunger in the astral worlds. If the annual shradh is not performed for some reason, performing it during the respective tithi during the Pitru Paksha can give added benefits.
Importance of Pitru Paksha Shradh
Pitru Paksha Shradh has got huge importance in Hindu culture because it is believed that during this period all the ancestors from the Pitru Lok (ancestral world) visit earth to meet their lineage. If the Shradh is performed and Tarpan is offered to them, the descendants get abundantly blessed by them.
