Pitru Paksha - a period of a fortnight that starts from Purnima and extends till Amavasya in the month of Bhadrapada. This Pitru Paksha Shradh is also called as Mahalaya Paksha Shradh and ceremonies performed during this period are believed to bestow immense benefits to people who perform it with true faith and sanctification. Hindus keenly look forward to this period to pay their debts to the ancestors.
Navami Shradh
This Shradh is performed for those ancestors who died on the Navami Tithi. Additionally, this day also gives extra provision like men can perform the Shradh ceremony for their wives or their mothers. Thus, this day is also called as Matru Navami. It is also called by other names like Naumi Shradh or Avidhava Shradh.
It is heartily believed in Hinduism that by performing the shradh and giving Tarpan to the descendant on this auspicious day of Navami it frees the departed souls from all the pain and sufferings and thereby gets blessed by them.
This year, the Navami Shradh falls on 23rd September 2019.
