The power of the snake sacrifice drowned all the snakes of the world and the king of the god Lord Indra into the fire.

All the gods pleaded Goddess Manasa to arbitrate this crisis. She sent her son Astika to the place where the snake sacrifice was conducted. Janamejaya’s knowledge of the Shastras impressed Astika and he granted him a boon.
