- Composed by Tulsidas
The 15th Century poet-saint named Tulsidas who was also a reformer & a philosopher composed the Hanuman Chalisa in 40 days in the language in Awadhi Jail of Third Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar.

Another most important fact mentioned in Hanuman Chalisa is that the distance between the Sun and Earth was long back mentioned by Tulsidas. This distance was much accurately calculated in the 15th century that the 17th-century scientists.
- Forty couplets make Hanuman Chalisa
Basically, there are two couplets at the beginning & one couplet at the end between the 40 verses of Chalisa. Here, “Chali” means forty and as there are 40 Dohas or couples, this hymn is called Chalisa. This Hanuman Chalisa consists of 45 verses, where two are introductory Dohas, 40 are Chaupais and 1 in Doha at the end.
Beginning with Shree is the first Doha which refers to Sita who is the Guru of Hanuman. Moreover, the first ten Chaupais describe the knowledge, virtues, power & bravery, while eleven to twenty Chaupais describe the act of Hanuman in his service to Rama. The 11-15th Chaupais say about the role of Hanuman in bringing back Lakshman to consciousness.
From the 21st Chaupai, Tulsidas describes the need of Hanuman’s Krupa, while in the end, Tulsidas asks Hanuman to reside in his heart & also the heart of the Vaishnavas. In conclusion, Tulsidas again hails & requests Hanuman to reside along with Rama, Lakshman & Sita.
