Savitri by sitting under a banyan tree had pleaded Yamaraj for three days in the month of Jyeshtha and demanded to release the life of his dead husband Satyavana. Yama was really happy with her prayer and he released the life of Satyavan. From that day the tradition of worshipping Satyavana, Savitri, Yama, and Brahma came into existence.

Also, this month is very auspicious as goddess Ganga appeared on the earth after thousands of years prayers of a legendary king Bhagiratha. Therefore people also worship the holy Ganga on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima.

Therefore devotees should pray to the banyan tree and offer water, raw milk, and batashas to the banyan tree.
