Offer divine prayers to the Guru of your life this Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima is a spiritual festival celebrated in the Hindu culture. This day is dedicated to the Gurus of life who shared their wisdom and knowledge with us and guided us in every difficult situation of our life with no fiscal expectations.

When is Guru Purnima actually celebrated?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Guru Purnima 2020 falls on the 5th of July month. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on full moon day of the Hindu month named Ashadha. Guru Purnima is marked as the birth anniversary of sage Veda Vyasa.

Guru Purnima Significance

Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa who was an author of holy Mahabharata was born on this day to the sage Parashara and Satyavati. This auspicious day is also celebrated as Vyasa Purnima in Hindu culture. Vyasa was not only born on this day but he has also started writing Brahma Sutra on Ashadha Suddha Padyami which ends on this day. Veda Vyasa studied Vedic hymns and he divided the holy Vedas in four parts namely Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva according to their usage in the sacrament, attributes, and teaching them to his four chief disciples that are Paila, Vaisampayana, Jaimini, and Sumantu.

After editing and dividing holy Vedas into four parts he earned designation as “Vyasa” which means to edit, to divide. Therefore Hindus offer a great tribute to Veda Vyasa and their Gurus on the holy occasion of Guru Purnima. Buddhists also celebrate this festival in the honour of Lord Buddha who has given his first sermon at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India.
