Jaya Parvati Vrat is a divine festival celebrated by unmarried girls and married women. On this pure occasion of Jaya Parvati Vrat, they worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to be blessed with good marital life and to get a soulmate of life.

When is Jaya Parvati Vrat actually celebrated?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Jaya Parvati Vrat 2020 falls on 3rd of the July month. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, this festival is celebrated for 5 days in Ashadha month and it begins on Trayodashi tithi.

Jaya Parvati Vrat Significance

As per the mythological stories, there was a brahmin couple who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Their great devotion impressed Lord Shiva and he appeared in their dream. Lord Shiva told them to reclaim the shiva linga which is secluded in the dark forest and asked them to worship the Shiva-linga to fulfill all their wishes of life.

The brahmin went to the dark forest to find the place where Shiva-linga is secluded. He found the Shiva-Linga and worshipped it with flowers and bel leaves. He was on his way home when he was bitten by a poisonous snake. Brahmin’s wife, who was waiting in the house, began to worry about her husband because he was too late. She prayed with her true devotion and loyalty to Lord Shiva for her husband’s safety. By seeing her true devotion, Lord Shiva saved the life of her husband. The perpetual worship of the Brahmin couple for Shiva-Linga blessed them with an adorable son.

What to do on Jaya Parvati Vrat

On the first day of Jaya Parvati Vrat, people plant the wheat seeds in the small pot which is called Jwaara and they keep it in the house. People worship the Jwaara plant every day by offering water to it. They also worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati by offering flowers, bel leaves. On this holy occasion of Jaya Parvati Vrat, women and unmarried girls fast and they will not eat salt, wheat, and wheat products but they eat curd, rice, milk, juice, etc. The women who have kept the fast should be awake the whole night which is called Jagarana and pray to Lord Shiva and Parvati. On the next day morning, women and girls take a bath and immerse the Jwaara pot into the water. They visit the temple to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and break their fast by eating full meals.
