Ganapathi Homam can be performed on Sankashti Chaturthi, third day of Navaratri or Vinayaka Chaturthi. Samkashti Chaturthi falls on the 4^th day of Krishna Paksha in every Lunar month. Vinayaka Chaturthi is the day when Lord Ganesha was born. Third day of Navratri is auspicious because demon Mahishasura was killed on this day by Goddess Durga.

Ganapathi Homam Vidhi includes Kalash Sthapana, Ganesha puja, Navagraha Puja, Chanting the Ganesha mantra and the Navagraha Mantra, offering flowers and sweets to the deity, Sankalpam to be made, Abhishekam, Arti, Homam to be performed by making offerings to the sacred fire and sweet distribution as Prasadam.
