Is the idol of Lakshmi placed in the right direction at your home?

The most revered deities in Hinduism is goddess Lakshmi as she is the giver of wealth and riches. People perform Lakshmi puja at home and at the place of work on a regular basis in order to welcome the deity of prosperity but during Diwali special pujas are organized to appease the goddess and seek blessings from the divine form.

Lord Ganesha who is the remover of obstacles and the giver of knowledge and wisdom is often worshipped along with Maa Lakshmi. People believe that in order to maintain wealth it is important to have knowledge. Wealth will only be useful when it is used wisely.

However, in order to be blessed by the deity of wealth, one must ensure the idol or image of Goddess Lakshmi is placed in the right direction at home. If the image or idol is placed in an inauspicious direction at home then the members of the family will witness problems in their life and there would be declination in the accumulated wealth. Also, unnecessary conflicts rise at home and there would be no peace.

The ideal direction to place the Lakshmi idol in the puja room

  • According to Vastu Shastra, the right direction to have the puja room is the north-east.
  • The idols and images kept in the puja room must be facing the east-west direction.
  • It is regarded to be propitious to have an idol or image of Goddess Lakshmi seated on the Kamala that is on a lotus. Goddess Lakshmi in a standing posture is believed to be volatile and it is said that wealth will not stay for a longer time.
  • Lakshmi who is the mother of Ganesh Ji must be placed on the right side of Ganapati since left is the place for the wife. Not following this will create a negative environment at home.
  • One must ensure that no black color is used in the puja room and the person performing the puja must not be dressed in black clothes.
  • It is very important to keep the northern corner of the house neat and tidy as this direction is associated with Goddess Lakshmi.
  • The sacred symbols like Om and Swastik should be made on the North/East walls where Goddess Lakshmi idol and images are placed. Also, rangoli which is considered to be a sign of welcoming prosperity should be made in front of the gods.
