Panchami Shradh is the day meant for carrying out the shradh and offer tarpan to the ancestors who breathe their last on the Panchami tithi of any month or paksha. Every year, the Bharani Nakshatra coincides with the Chaturthi or Panchami tithis during the Pitru Paksha. But, this year Bharani Nakshatra falls on the Panchami shradh, therefore, Panchami shradh is also called as Bharani shradh and is on 19th September 2019.
This Bharani shradh is highly regarded to perform shradh of those who died unmarried. It is also said that this Shradh is considered highly auspicious if performed at the holy place Gaya.
Why is Pitru Paksha regarded as the auspicious time to perform Shradh?
These sixteen days period starting from Purnima to Amavasya which comes in the month of Bhadrapada is meant to be the most favorable time to please our ancestors. Despite performing the annual shradh of the ancestors, offering Tarpan and performing Shradh during Pitru Paksha is highly recommended to please the departed souls and seek their blessings. The shradh ceremonies performed during the Pitru Paksha are believed to be very dear to the ancestors and they give multiple blessings in return.
By performing Shradh during the Pitru Paksha the family of the deceased will earn the blessings of their ancestors while they come to the earth in this auspicious time. These shradh ceremonies are called as Parvan Shraddhas when it is done in Kutup Muhurt or Rohina Muhurt and concludes with an offering of Tarpan.
