Get blessed by Goddess Lakshmi on the auspicious Kojagiri Purnima
Kojagiri also called Sharad Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day after Dussehra. Kojagiri marks the end of the rainy season and on this day people worship Lord Krishna, Maa Lakshmi and Chandra Dev asking for protection and blessings from these deities.
On the day of Kojagiri, the time the moon rises is considered to be auspicious. According to mythology, amrut drips from the moon on the full moon day of Ashwin month so ladies prepare a sweet dish made of rice and is kept in the moonlight. Next morning it is consumed as a prasad.
Apart from the religious beliefs, it is very much essential to understand the scientific importance of Sharad Purnima. On this day the moon comes closer to planet earth and shines much brighter than other full moon days. The rays coming from the moon are said to have healing abilities which are essential to nurture one’s body and soul.
Here are the rituals that are to be followed on Kojagiri or Sharad Purnima
Women especially newly married observe fast on this day as it is believed that fasting on this day will wipe away all the sufferings and fill the lives with happiness and prosperity. It is also stated that, women fast on this day seeking the deity for the longevity of their spouse.
Legends explain that the day of Kojagiri or Sharad Purnima is regarded to be auspicious as it is the birthday of Goddess Lakshmi. It is mentioned in the Hindu mythological scriptures that Goddess Lakshmi goes around the earth on this very day to check how people are worshipping. She on that day blesses all those devotees who are found worshipping her with complete faith and devotion. Hence, the idol or image of Goddess Lakshmi is decorated with beautiful flowers, Lakshmi stotras are chanted and the puja concludes with performing aarti of the deity.
There is yet another mythological story associated with Kojagiri Purnima. It is mentioned in the religious hindu scriptures that Shri Krishna along with Radha and other Gopika stris performed Raas Lila in Vrindavan. Hence Sharad Purnima is also known as Raas Purnima. The bright moon light adds more charm to the night thus making the night perfect for love.
