Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is one among the 13 Sankashti Chaturthi dedicated to Lord Ganapati. Heramba Maha Ganapati is an incarnation of the Lord Ganesha. It is one of the auspicious festivals celebrated in the Hindu religion as it brings happiness, well-being, good luck into devotees’ life.

When is Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi actually celebrated?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi 2020 falls on the 7th of August month. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the 4th day of the dark fortnight of the moon in the month of Shravana. This auspicious festival observed by the Hindus in the subordinates of India is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi Significance

The holy Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is devoted to Lord Heramba Maha Ganapati who is an uncommon form among 32 forms of Lord Ganesha and the deity is portrayed with five faces and ten hands and is riding a lion. One hand is in boon giving posture while the other hand is in blessing posture. The other eight hands are holding rudraksha, rope, modak, mala, goad, axe, apple, and a tuck.

Every month devotees worship a different form of Lord Ganesha with different Peetha but there is no temple available which is completely dedicated to Lord Heramba Maha Ganpati although he is worshipped in the Kashi Vishwanath temple which is located in Varanasi.

What to do on Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi

Wake up before the sunrises and take a bath. On the auspicious occasion of Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi, devotees should observe a strict fast. Light the holy lamps and worship Lord Ganesha by offering him durvas, jasmine flowers, banana, coconut, and his favourite sweet known as modak. Then, perform aarti by chanting sacred slokas and later distribute the Prashad to everyone.

Meditate in the daytime and chant “Ashtothara” and “SankashtNashana Sthothra” mantras on this occasion of Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi. The vital prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha in the evening after seeing the moon. Devotees break their fast after seeing the moon and they also worship the moon on this occasion of Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi.
