When is Ganesh Chaturthi actually celebrated?

As per the Gregorian Calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi 2020 falls on 22nd of the August month. According to the Hindu Lunar calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi arrives on the fourth day of Shukla Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Bhadrapada and this festival ends on Anant Chaturdashi which arrives on the 14th day of a waxing moon.

The auspicious festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha who is depicted with an elephant head on the human body. As per the historical records, the founder of the Maratha Empire Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi because Lord Ganesha was his family deity.
