Directions - An important aspect of Vastu Shastra

Directions have great importance in vastu Shastra. According to Vastu Shastra, there are a total of 10 directions such as East, West, North, South, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest. Space is the 9th direction in Vastu and the 10th direction is patal.

Let’s see what these directions actually tell us

East direction - Lord Indra who is the giver of wealth, prosperity and rains owns this direction. Sun is the representative of East direction and it signifies growth. So, it is advised to keep this direction clean and well-ventilated. It is said that there should not be any walls or other obstacles here as it prevents positivity from entering in.

West Direction - Ruled by Varun Dev, West direction denotes stability in life and Saturn is the planet for the West. It is advised not to have big openings or entrances in this direction as positive energy flowing from the East will vanish.

North Direction - This is regarded to be an auspicious direction and is ruled by Lord Kubera who is the deity of riches and wealth. Budha is the ruling planet and in Vastu Shastra, this direction is occupied by the chest and breast of Vastu Purush. It is very much important that no heavy objects are placed in this direction and it must be kept hygienic, bright and airy.

South Direction - This is not a very auspicious direction as this is ruled by God of Death that is Yam Dev. Again no entrances or openings must be made in this direction as it is the place to store the positive energy that comes in from the North direction. Having an opening in the South direction will hamper growth in all aspects.

Southeast - Planet Shukra is the head of this direction and it is ruled by Agni Dev hence this direction is best suitable to have a kitchen.

Southwest - Rahu heads this direction and the demon named Nriti rules it. If this direction is used properly then one can see improvements in all aspects of life. But at the same time if the direction is not as per the vastu guidelines then it can create tensions, fights and other mishaps.

Northeast direction - this direction is ruled Lord Shiva himself and is one of the most favourable directions as per Vastu Shastra. So, this direction must be kept neat and tidy all the time. Avoid constructing toilets in this direction, otherwise health issues are sure to bother you.

Northwest - Vayudeva is the head of this direction and Moon is its representative. This direction in Vastu Shastra is unstable as it is an element of wind. However, if this direction matches the vastu norms then it can uplift one's career and when used wrongly can create confusions.
