Tulsi Vivah Significance

As per the mythological stories, Vrinda who is an incarnation of Goddess Tulsi got married to a cruel king named Jalandhar. As she was a passionate devotee of Lord Vishnu, she praised him for her husband’s healthy and long life. Due to the divine blessing of Lord Vishnu, Jalandhar became strong and unbeatable. Lord Shiva requested Lord Vishnu to reduce the strength of his power. Therefore, Lord Vishnu took the form of cruel king Jalandhar and he tricked Vrinda. Jalandhar became defenceless and was killed by Lord Shiva.

When Vrinda knew about this incident, she cursed Lord Vishnu and submerged herself in the water. Lord Vishnu and other deities settled her soul in the plant which is recognized as a Tulsi later. Tulsi took the next birth as Saligram and got married to Lord Vishnu on the occasion of Prabodhini Dwadashi which is celebrated in the Hindu culture as Tulsi Vivah with zeal and excitement.
