Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi significance

Vedic stories say that Goddess Parvati made Ganesha from the turmeric paste that she uses for her bath. Parvati ordered Ganesha that she was going to take a bath and you should stay at the gate as her bodyguard and not let anyone come in. After some time Lord Shiva came there and Ganesha stopped him and refused to let him go inside. This angered Lord Shiva and he ordered his companions to put this child aside. Lord Ganesha defeated everyone who came to his side. Seeing this, Lord Shiva got angry and beheaded Ganesha and Lord Ganesha's head was blown away by the strong power of Lord Shiva.

When Goddess Parvati saw this, she was in great shock. She insisted that she wanted her son alive. Shankara asked his companions to find Ganesha's head. After searching a lot, they did not find Ganesha's head but an elephant baby had died in a forest and his mother was crying a lot. They told the whole story to the mother of the dead elephant baby and asked for the head of her baby. The mother allowed her baby to be beheaded, thinking that her baby would be reborn. Lord Shiva’s followers brought the head for Shiva and attached the head of the baby elephant to the dead body of Parvati’s son. From that day onwards his name became Gajanana also called Gajavadana.
