Amavasya is celebrated on 15th day of the dark fortnight of Hindu month which falls on the no moon day. The day is regarded pertinent for doing Tarpan and Shradh for dead parents and other relatives. Amavasya is perceived to be a perfect day to get protection from black magic and evil acts done on individuals. Amavasya night provides the ideal context and environment in which evil powers are invoked. Shani Amavasya puja and daan are also helpful to mitigate the negative effect of kaalsarp dosha and pitra dosha and retrograde Jupiter.

Persons going through the main and sub period of Shani, Rahu, Ketu(mahadasha and antardasha) are suggested to conduct the Shani Amavasya Puja and Daan so that quantum of suffering or debt is reduced.
