Raksha Bandhan is auspicious festival, celebrated with much fervor across India. On this day, sisters tie rakhi, a sacred thread to their brothers and the brothers in turn, promise to protect their sisters from any harm that come in their way. It is also believed that Raksha Bandhan is the best day to perform the Shravan Purnima Puja. By performing this puja, an individual will be granted all their heart's desires.

According to legends, it is believed that Lord Shiva killed demon Tripurasura on the day of Kartik Purnima. Hence, Kartik Purnima is also known as Tripuri Purnima or Tripurari Purnima. As per legends of Tripuri Purnima, Tripurasura defeated Gods and started ruling their kingdom. When Tripurasura was killed, Gods were overjoyed and celebrated the day of Kartik Purnima as the day of illuminations. Hence, thousands of earthen lamps are lit at all temples as well as at the bank of river Ganga on the day of Kartik Purnima. It is a great day to perform the Sri Satyanarayan Puja and Katha.
