Said to be the third of the ‘Seven Divine Matrikas’, Kaumari Devi is referred to as the Shakti of Skanda, the Lord Kumara or Murugan. Known by other names like Karthikeyani & Ambika she possesses the power of Lord Kumara who is the “God of Battle or War”.
According to the Matsya Puranas, the peacock is the Vahana or the vehicle of Kaumari. She is the female form of Kumara and is known as Devasena, Mahavidya, Mayuravahini, Swaha, Ila, and Shakti.
This four-armed deity wears red saree and holds Vajra Dandam in one hand, Trishul in second hand, while the other two hands show the Abhaya mudra and Vel Ayudham or spear in the fourth hand.
