Important Facts

Due to the prayers of Lord Indra and various other deities, Lord Vishnu appeared as his 5th avatar as a dwarf Brahmin called Vamana. The king greeted the Brahmin and told him that he would grant whatever he wanted. As a beggar, Lord Vamana asked for 3 pieces of land measured from his feet.

Hearing this, King Mahabali agreed to give so much space to a dwarf Brahmin. For this, Vamana grew in size and took huge forms. With the first step, he measured the entire earth, with the second step, he conquered all the heavenly places. There was no room left for placing the third leg by Lord Vamana. Knowing that the dwarf Brahmin is none other than Lord Vishnu, King Mahabali himself offered his head so that Lord Vamana could take his third step. Therefore, the king was defeated and sent to Hades.
