Important Facts

Lord Shiva is found lying under the foot of Maa Kali and legends state that when Maa Kali was destroying the demons she was unstoppable. So, to console her and to reduce her anger; Lord Shiva lied down in her path and when Maa Kali realised on whom she was standing; her anger subsided and she calmed down.

The other popular story related to the birth of Maa Kali is the destruction of the demon Raktabijasura. This demon had a boon of creating multiple demons every time when a drop of his blood fell on the ground. So, to curb the demon, both gods and goddesses decided to combine their supreme powers and create a powerful being that is Kali. Goddess Kali swallowed the demons without dropping the blood and then chopped the Raktabijasura’s head and drank all the blood without spilling a drop of it.
