Important Facts

Yellow is the colour associated with Maa Bagalamukhi hence the deity is dressed in yellow clothes and is seated on a yellow platform or cloth. Yellow flowers are offered to the goddess and turmeric symbolises marriage.

According to the legends, in Satya yuga the entire universe was getting destroyed by a massive storm. Lord Vishnu and other gods did not know how to stop it so they approached Maa Tripurasundari and to please her they performed penance on the shores of Haridra Lake which is also called Turmeric Lake. Appeased by their devotion, the goddess took the form of Bagalamukhi and pacified the storm thus the universe was protected from destruction.

There is another mythological story where Maa Bagalamukhi assassinated the demon Madan who had acquired the boon of vak-siddhi due to which whatever he said would come true. Goddess amputated the demon's tongue and disabled his powers.
