Dasha Mahavidya Puja honors the 10 facets of Shakti and Goddess Parvati's benevolent influence on her followers' life. Each form or avatar of the Goddess indicates a knowledge because the phrase "Dasha Mahavidya" means "Ten Great Knowledge" or "Wisdom." The general public became aware of the need of honoring the feminine when they realized that the heavenly mother of all is the ultimate source of strength and energy. Hindu mythology claims that after a brief argument, Goddess Parvati revealed her ten forms to her husband, Lord Shiva. This was a significant occurrence because it signified the beginning of the devotion of the sacred feminine branch of deity and the ten manifestations of Shakti throughout the history of Hinduism.
In the Dasha Mahavidya, there are ten different types of divinity.

• Kali, the destructive goddess, is ferocious.
• Tara, the benevolent goddess of stability and compassion.
• Tripurasundari, also known as Shodashi, is the deity of virtue and bounty.
• Bhuvaneshwari: regarded as the origin of creation, this goddess rules over the cosmos.
• Bhairavi: Kundalini force is symbolized by the strongest aspect of Goddess Parvati, Bhairavi.
• The headless goddess Chinnamasta, who symbolizes the power of metamorphosis.
• Dhumavati, a widowed goddess endowed with mystical abilities.
• Baglamukhi: the goddess of esoteric knowledge and dark magic, who is able to banish all evil.
• Matangi: Maa Parvati's fierce form, who reigns over our senses.
• Kamalatmika, often known as Kamala: the sweetly lovely

The Dasa Mahavidya has been separated into two subcategories, one with the benign goddesses and the other with the violent and fierce manifestations of Kali, in accordance with traditional Hindu beliefs. The terrifying goddess Kali, who chops off heads in the beginning of the Dasha Mahavidya, and Kamalatmika, who opens our hearts to see the universe with greater intensity and love, are its endings.
